The Antioch School
Th Antioch School is located in a rural farming area where you can see the hills and fields that shaped Grant Wood’s artistic vision. The one-room school house was built in 1872 and attended by the American Gothic artist, Grant Wood (from 1897-1901).
In 1998 two community spirited volunteer groups, The Paint ‘n Palette Club and the Jones County Historical Preservation Commission came together and began a large restoration project. Much of the labor for the restoration was volunteered by the Paint’n Palette members and a large portion of the funds for the restoration materials came from local donations. The Jones County Historical Preservation Commission helped immensely be garnering support from local and county agencies.
